I would like to thank Todd for his calm understanding, kind approach and above all expertise in treating nearly all members of my family. He did a wonderful job (Mohs procedure) on my husband’s nasal BCC, excision of a mole on my back and getting to the bottom of a complex dermatological problem with my teenage daughter. Both cosmetic results were highly commendable. I am a medical practitioner myself and so am well aware of how stressful seeking dermatological advice can be but Todd, and the team of consummate professionals/reception staff he works with, made this experience a breeze. I had occasion to take my teenage daughter to see Dr Todd Gunson at Auckland Skin & Cancer Foundation for an excision and body check. She is very uncomfortable with anything medical, and is also extremely shy regarding her body. As a consequence, I was expecting some resistance throughout the consultation. To my grateful surprise, Dr Gunson put her completely at ease in the first couple of minutes. He spoke with her directly, whilst still including me, treating her as an intelligent young adult, but with patience, kindness, and respect. After the excision and body check, I asked her how she felt about going back again. She said she liked Dr Gunson and trusted him if she required any further surgery. What a relief!

The first stage of this journey actually took place in my GPs office when she told me she would like to refer me to Dr Todd Gunson as she noticed two unusual small skin lesions on my head and neck. After an initial consultation by Dr Gunson I was phoned by a friendly receptionist who confirmed my details and made an appointment. When I turned up at the Clinic for the surgery I was certainly concerned as I had never had skin surgery before, was worried about the outcome and also I feel I have a needle-phobia. When I turned up for my appointment I was greeted by the receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting room. Within five minutes a nurse took me to a pre-op room and immediately calmed me down with her friendly conversation. Within a few minutes I was in the modern theatre. Dr Gunson examined the lesions again and even asked me if I would like to listen to some music. Coming from Ireland I chose Van Morrison. The first sensation I felt was some cream being applied to the areas around the lesions. Unbelievably after that I felt no needles and all I experienced was the Doctor and nurses chatting to me and the cool sounds of Van Morrison. In what seemed to be a short time the surgery was completed and I was being bandaged up by a nurse. I was given an appointment a week later to have the stitches removed. This happened once again painlessly. Several days later Dr Gunson rang me on my mobile to say the Laboratory results had come back and all was clear. This was certainly a relief. Five weeks post-surgery I cannot even see a scar. I would like to thank Dr Gunson and his professional, friendly nursing team for this excellent service and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.
